Personal request to take 2 min to read this & take action on it: Yesterdays experience has made a major impact on me. Not a moment has passed in the past 29 hours where I havent thought deeply of occured. While sitting on the beach yesterday I pulled 2 struggling scuba divers to safety. I noticed as they went in from a beach entry that they had been challenged w/ getting under and the surf was rough. They looked like they were being tossed in a washer machine. 10 min passed I noticed they were attempting to make their way back to the shore. They looked out of sorts, flopping and flailing about. Thats when I knew something is not right. I went across the beach and passed at least a dozen other people to get to the struggling divers. They were exhausted and getting tossed by the waves. I grabbed the first one a man and removed his BC & tank helped him up and dragged his equipment on the shore. I returned to lift his wifes face from out of the shallow water to see her regulator was not in her mouth and she was pinned face down. I pulled her up on to her knees and told her I got you. I am removing your BC and your fins, which I promptly did. She was conscious but disoriented for sure. Then I helped her to her feet and said hold on to me, I am dragging you and your gear to the sand. As we walked up to the sand gasping for air she let out a great big heavy breathing THANK YOU. The two of them could barely breathe. After it was over, I was happy to have been there. My daughter & son who had been playing further down the beach came over and asked Dad did you save them? I said no, I merely helped them out. Then about 20 min later, the gentlemen staggered by us to begin the climb off the beach & up the fairly steep hill w/ a few of his lighter items. Shannan (my fabulous wife) noticed he was still struggling to breathe. She turned to me and said, Im going to help him, you go help his wife. Tyler and I went to the wife, picked up all their heavy gear, tanks, weights, BCs and carried it all up the hill (which was a challenge). The thank yous and hugs were a genuine as ever. I am thankful god put us there to help. What I am perplexed by is Not One other person on the beach did anything at all. Not a bit... I am miffed!! As a society are we so disconnected that we dont notice? Are we so into ourselves we miss the opportunity to help others? Apologies from me for going deep on this. I have a request. Anyone who reads this please do something to help someone in the month of December. Now more than ever we need to help others. Volunteer your time, do something to help another person or persons. Dont let this opportunity pass you by. This is not a chain letter and I am only asking because helping others is the best way to show our appreciation for the life we get to enjoy. Thank you!!
