Personally I would give this mower a four star rating only because the Hydrostatic transmission is LEVER controlled. I am use to and would prefer PEDAL control. But to rate the unit for what it is, it is a really great mower. I previously owned a John Deere L110 and I was really disappointed in the quality of it. The transmission broke after only 133 hours of slight use. WARNING: Be sure to have your current phone number listed in your Amazon account because the delivery company will NOT deliver until they contact you. Since I did not know this the delivery was delayed two days! Anyway, the mower arrived packed very well. I did notice the left plastic vent grille on the hood was broken because it was installed incorrectly. I called the local Husqvarna dealer and they wouldnt do anything until I brought the mower into them to repair. I told them I didnt have a way to transport it and they wanted $75 to come and get it. So I then contacted Amazon Customer Care, told them about the problem and the number of the part number needed, and they contacted Husqvarna and they are sending the part to me at no cost. Now back to the review... the packing is VERY sturdy. It comes in a wooden crate on a pallet. Youll need a crowbar or something similar to pry the BIG staples out of the wood. It would be advisable to have someone help you do this. My wife helped me. I checked the oil level and gave the mower a general inspection. I then started the Briggs & Stratton 20HP engine and it started IMMEDIATELY. Ive never seen an engine start so fast. I was impressed. The 17.5 HP Kohler engine on my JD L110 always had to crank and crank before it started. The battery is located under the seat. The 2.5 gallon gas tank is under the hood, close to the steering wheel and instrument console. There is NO engine clock timer. Too bad, but I can live without it. The REAL NICE thing is this, there is a position on the ignition switch that you can use that allows you to go in reverse WITH the blades engaged. If you choose not to use this position, the engine will die if you try to go backwards. On the John Deere L110 they have a button you have to push to be able to back up. (I bypassed this switch with a piece of wire). So I am LOVING the Husqvarna solution to this. NOTE: there is a switch/sensor in the seat so that if you just barely move the engine will start to die. Using a LEVER to adjust your speed takes a little bit of getting used to. I would prefer using a pedal but to be honest, after using the mower the first time, I almost prefer the lever. I noticed that my foot wasnt tired like it was using the John Deere. It also seems to turn very easy. Oh yeah! The Husky has a LOT MORE power and speed than the John Deere. I did purchase the OPTIONAL mulching kit and installed it. It took about 10 minutes. All you do is raise the mowing deck all the way up so you can get to the blades. Be careful not to cut yourself on the sharp blades. Just remove the bolts holding the blades on and replace them with the new mulching ones. Then there is a plastic guard that covers the discharge hole. It is held on with two 2 bungee cords with hooks on their ends. Its real easy to install. You also get two keys, an attachment that connects a garden hose to the mowing deck so you can wash the underside. You get a manual detailing the Briggs & Stratton engine, a manual detailing EVERY part of your mower, and a users manual.
