Persons with Disabilities Dear Social Justice seeker, EqUUal Access collaborates with UUSC and the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) to bring attention to the myriad challenges people with disabilities encounter every day. Will you call the U.S. Senate to voice your support for the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)? Call the Congressional switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask to be connected to one of your senators. Say the following: “Hi, I’m [name], and I live in [home state]. I support swift U.S. ratification of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. We urgently need protections for people living with disabilities to be supported and extended throughout the world. Please vote to support ratification of this treaty.” Background: The Senate has another opportunity right now to hold a vote on CRPD. The last time the treaty came to a Senate vote, it was defeated by just five votes — a slim margin. This treaty — modeled on the Americans with Disabilities Act — would provide greater legal protections to people with disabilities to ensure such things as access to public transportation, education, employment, housing, and safe drinking water and sanitation. Together, we can protect the inherent worth and dignity of all people -Auburn UU Church
