Pete Seeger (1919-2014) Pete Seeger died today at age 94. His anti-war folk songs are well known. Pete Seeger vocally opposed U.S. imperialist wars from Vietnam to Iraq. In 1952 his musical group, The Weavers, sold 4 million records, yet their group was soon destroyed by the US government after they were blacklisted as a communist group. In 1951 Pete Seeger was called to testify before the Congressional Committee on Un-Amercan Activities about his membership in the Communist Party. He refused. For that refusal he was sentenced in 1955 to a year in prison. Pete Seeger never had to serve that time, but his popular career didnt recover from his blacklisting until he was invited on the Smothers Brothers TV show in 1967. In 2008 Pete Seeger performed at the inauguration of war monger Barack Obama. As a member of the Communist Party (USA) which started supporting the Democrat Party under Stalins direction after the death of Lenin, Pete Seegers politics were far more liberal than revolutionary. Yet, Pete Seegers contributions to American culture should be honored. Likewise, the oppressive role of the US government in shaping American culture and politics should be condemned. -Steven Argue of the Revolutionary Tendency Pete Seeger Performing His Song Where Have All The Flowers Gone youtube/watch?v=TXqTf8DU6a0
