Peter Farrington goes to the Turkish Bath Chapter Four Peter - TopicsExpress

Peter Farrington goes to the Turkish Bath Chapter Four Peter thought he detected a smirk on the thin lips of Klaus and he was certainly exchanging knowing glances with Marleine. Mrs F wasnt really tuned into this post war Bavarian behaviour as she seemed more interested in the chipped varnish on her big toe and, as usual, telling Peter some fact that she had read in a brochure. This particular fact was that salt baths are good for your respiratory system. Never one to patronise dear readers, Peter simply said I wonder why that is and set about figuring it out. While he was doing so, he took in the surroundings. A dim lit room with a bench around the edge. The floir was covered in pebbles of salt over salt gravel. Tge walls were rendered in a salty covering and the ceiling was plain white plaster. It was nothing more than a corpy store for gritting lorries. Salt bath pfffft and more pfffft. Klaus played his card. Peter knew he would and duly fixed him a stare. The kind of stare that has reduced bank tellers and the like to tears over the last 30 years. Klaus had picked up a handful of gravel and was rubbing it into his skin. Marleine followed suit. Probably obeying orders. They glanced nervously at Peter who knew that any moment now Mrs F would cross the ball for him to score that second goal. It took longer than hed have liked but sure enough it came in the form of a loud question: Is that what were supposed to do? In the same moment Mrs F bent forward to pick up some gravel. The ball was in the air. Peter took aim and reached out to stop her. He made sure he laughed and shook his head while saying No, no, which was as much as Klaua could be expected to understand. With a smirk, he caught Klauss eye. Gerry was beaten again. Marleine stopped rubbing herself with salt and let it casually slip through her fingers. Klaus looked to the floor and then mustered the dignity to put his down too. The correct way is the British way and the British way is not to embrace practices that are foreign to them. Rubbing oneself in salt is not for we British. We are above that and Gerry knows it. Klaus thought he could fool Peter into copying him. Think again Klaus. And so we braced ourselves for the next stage of this visit....
