Petitions, free refreshments today (MCTH) - Meade County Taxpayers for Responsible Government have announced they will be located at Jambonz Restaurant on Junction Ave. from 3 to 5 p.m. today (Saturday) for those registered voters interested in signing a petition which would put the Meade County Commissions decision to build a multi-million build road using funds from a TIF district, on an election ballot. The bypass road would connect 131 Ave. which runs north and south pass Buffalo Chip, to Cardinal Place which is located off the Pleasant Valley exit on I-90 south of Sturgis. The terrain does not allow the road be built along the publicly-owned section line, thus, road right-of-ways need to be purchased from property owners. The largest land owner is Ross Lamphere. The SD Department of Transportation had signed a contract with Meade County to build the road but backed out of the contract when cost estimates hit near the $13 million mark about seven years ago. The commission wants the road built in time for the 75th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Jambonz will have free refreshments and hors doeuvres. The petition deadline is this coming Monday.
