Phantom Title Switches......(Keeping with my Road Warriors theme) Did you know that The Road Warriors DEBUTED as a team on June 11 1983 (This match is on the Road Warriors DVD that WWE released almost a decade ago) as the NWA National Tag Team Champions? The story goes as this. Prior to the creation of The Road Warriors, the future Animal was being used as a mid card jobber in Georgia and then Mid Atlantic wrestling, so he quit. When Ole Anderson finally convinced him to come back, he saw a picture of Hawk and asked to bring them in together as his Road Warriors, he promised to make them champions, but Animal assumed that meant somewhere down the line. It seemed that Ole had a problem, his National tag champs Arn Anderson and Matt Bourne were on the outs because Bourne was in some hot water lets just say. Ole needed to make a switch and fast, so when the Road Warriors were set to debut, he presented them with the title belts. (Ironically he told them right after that they know nothing and cant wrestle or talk a lick, so shut up and listen!) It was announced that The Road Warriors had won the titles in a tournament in Chicago a couple days before their June 11 1983 debut. Of course, this tournament never actually took place. Oh and just for the record, Bill Watts came up with the idea for Hawk and Animal to start using face paint and Arn Anderson almost became Arn Ellering at one point, Pauls kayfabe brother.
