Philadelphia Zoo: Canadian Lynxes on Exhibit Recorded: - TopicsExpress

Philadelphia Zoo: Canadian Lynxes on Exhibit Recorded: 7/16/14. This is Freya (female) and Odr or Odie for short (male). They are known as the Canadian or North American lynx. In the wild they feed mostly on snowshoe hare and a few other small animals. There was once a good population of these cats, but because of constant trapping and hunting for their fur and over logging in their habitat, their numbers began to decline. But thankfully conservation groups are working to save them. Canadian lynxes have paws that help them to walk on the snow like snowshoes, their territory can range from Alaska to all over Canada, and their fur changes color depending on the season. Here at the zoo Odie and Freya can be hard to see sometimes since they camouflage easily or climb up high in their exhibit, but when they are up and about they can be easy for guests to see them. I heard that Odie came to the zoo with a possibility to mate with Freya ( I dont know for sure). So we might get lynx kittens!
