Philippians 4:4-7 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Rejoice - to be joyful in everything - is key to these verses. Ultimate joy comes from the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in our lives. It is important for us to remember that Paul was in prison when he wrote these words. Even though he was in prison, his heart attitude was one of joy and gentleness. He knew that The Lord was with him while in prison - physically he may have been locked up, but spiritually he was totally free in Christ Jesus! Paul continues to say "do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" - we feel anxious about a lot of things, but Paul is instructing us to pray about ALL situations - and because of our prayers, we do not need to be anxious. Also, we are to have thanksgiving through these situations and present ourselves and our requests to God. The peace that is available to us through God is beyond our own understanding but with God, He will help us focus our hearts and minds to His thinking. Lord God - we desire to rejoice in You always. Let us show gentleness to all. Help us, Lord to not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, help us to present our requests to You. May the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus we pray - Amen The Reflections Team
