Philippines extends visa-free stays The Philippines has extended its visa-free privileges from 21 days to 30 days, effective August 1. Foreign nationals from 151 countries, including South Africa, no longer require a visa for stays in the Philippines for 30 days or less. Travellers must hold a valid ticket for their return journey and their passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the authorised stay in the Philippines. However, holders of South African temporary passports still need to apply for a visa before travelling to the Philippines, regardless of the length of stay in the country. The extended visa-free regime was implemented through an inter-agency co-ordination between the Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Tourism, Department of Justice, Bureau of Immigration and the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency in an effort to increase visitor numbers to the country.
