Philippines now ranks 51st out of 152 economies in Fraser Institute’s Economic Freedom of the World, 5 notches higher than in 2013. Among Asean peers: Philippines trailed only behind Singapore (2nd). It was ahead of Brunei (62nd), Cambodia (72nd, with Macedonia and Kazakhstan), Malaysia (74th), Indonesia (80th), Thailand (102nd), Vietnam (114th) and Myanmar (143rd). We scored HIGHER on the ff: access to sound money (like the ability to keep low and stable inflation and the freedom to use alternative currencies); legal structure and security of property rights; regulation of credit, labor and business; and business regulations. Scored LOWER on the ff: credit market regulations; freedom to trade internationally; size of government (degree to which a country relies on personal choice and markets rather than government budgets and political decision-making). ow.ly/CstwD
