Phillipston Historical Society Memory Tree Ceremony An annual - TopicsExpress

Phillipston Historical Society Memory Tree Ceremony An annual town event in early December called the Memory Tree ceremony. This year it is being held on Sunday, December 1st at 4:30 PM starting at the Town Common. The Historical Society of Phillipston hosts a town event which celebrates the lives and events of people that are important to Phillipston residents. It is also a fundraiser for the Society. Townspeople are invited to donate $5 for each name or event they would like to have read aloud at the ceremony. The proceeds help our 501(c)3 Historical Society with its operating expenses and in acquiring artifacts relative to Phillipstons history. The event begins at the Christmas tree on The Common at 4:30 PM. We gather there to turn on the lights on the tree and sing a couple Christmas carols. We then walk across the road to the Congregational Church where we gather inside for the actual ceremony. Then the reading of the names. Its a simple ceremony, and very meaningful to the attendees. After the names are read, we then make the annual formal announcement as to who has been chosen as the recipient of the Public Service Award. This is similar to a citizen of the year award. The event which includes a Christmas music program, followed by refreshments in the vestry of the church. (This year the music is provided by the brass quartet, The Pioneer Valley Brass who will perform Dana Vespers. ) Come and enjoy the holiday gathering and spirit.
