Photographers triumphed at the Mortlock McCormack Law Art Awards last night, at the opening of the RIPE Art & Design exhibition. The Supreme Winner – Phillip Searle Highly Commended – Jo Snell, Riva Nadarajah, Irenie How, Ashleigh Horrell Will Cumming Memorial Award – Jo Snell Noeline McIlroy CPIT Staff Award (joint winners) – Lisa Isbister and Isabella Griffiths Art & Design Manager Bruce Russell said the evening was a great success. What was noteworthy in the results was that there was a range of programmes represented in the winners. The MML award went to a L6 Diploma in Professional Photography student, which was a first. The judges were highly impressed with his evocative monochrome landscape of Lake Rotoiti, captured with a very long exposure. Other big winners in the Noeline McIlroy (a new award enabled by Miss McIlroy’s generous bequest) were from Applied Visual Arts (Lisa) and Visual Communication (Isabella). The highly commendeds were half AVA and half VisComm. It would be fair to say that this year was especially strong in photography. ^BR
