Photokina 2014 has made me think about the state of photography - TopicsExpress

Photokina 2014 has made me think about the state of photography brands. Canon is in trouble technically. They cant keep up on sensors and are falling behind, but they are still the best selling brand out there. The world around them is moving faster than they can keep up though. They need to fix this asap. Nikon is in trouble financially. They avoided the situation Canon is in now, by buying some really great sensors, but it is cutting into their profits and the company is stumbling. If they continue this, then Nikon will have been bought be another bigger company within 10 years. Sony is in trouble due to its size. Sony is a Hydra. It has numerous heads and some of them have been losing money. However on the camera side of things, Sony is kicking EVERYONES ass. Their own market share is growing and at the same time they are manufacturing parts and selling them to their competitors for extra profits. Many brands are now depending on Sony to keep up their own production. Samsung is the dark horse in the coming years. Like Sony they are beginning to manufacture some really impressive sensor chips and while their own market share is still miniscule, they could end up being one of the most important players soon. I predicts a future where Nikon is dependant on Sony and Canon is forced to give in and likewise partner up with either Samsung or Sony. I dont see anyone else being able to keep up with those two on the growth of sensor complexity. So far Canon has been holding out on making mirrorless cameras entirely (Canon EOS-M oh shut up what a joke), but it will come. Especially if they do decide to give in and partner up with someone like Samsung, who is now capable of producing the Samsung NX1, which just made most of their competitors piss themselves. And meanwhile companies like Fuji and Olympus and will continue to grow and gobble up the hipster market while Panasonic and Samsung get all the videographers. Lets see if Im right. ;)
