Photos are meant to be seen and shared. They are a snapshot of people’s lives at the time they were taken. They can be both precious and absurd all at the same time, and in most cases those are the most endearing ones. While I was never subjected to it, I have heard that grandpa had slide shows that went on and on and on. It is plain to me when looking over most of his body of work that he enjoyed photography and wanted people to see them. I was never given the chance to hear him talk about his slides, why he took and duplicated 26 copies of a burning barn, or why he played with the f stop on his camera so much that my father had to hold up a sign for every picture taken. I will never know why, but as an aspiring armature photographer myself I understand some of the thoughts that went into it. Looking at his photos is one of the ways I have chosen to honor him. I have heard grumbles that my offer was imprudent, but it’s my understanding of who my grandpa was that he would want them to be seen, not hidden away in some dusty back corner of a closet or in the attic above a garage. So my offer stands. Private message me your address and I will send you a DVD with 5855 files separated in 245 folders. I am sure that you know they are Raymond Donald Rickerd’s creations, and that you will treat them as such.
