It has been 3-4 years since I had last been to this con. I had NO idea what to expect and I almost started off on my usual grumbly foot, Ill get to that in a moment. Got a ride down with 2 wonderful friends that happened to be going right through town. And reached my friends apartment actually early, not too early thankfully and we passed the time watching a video. Once the car packing was moved from one to the other and the items staying at the apartment were in the apartment they went on to the hotel and I got settled in with a night of watching Disney movies and making small buttons. Friday morning we woke up to a little snow in the air, but mostly snow and FREEZING! Once the ice was scrapped off and I hadnt lost my fingers we headed to the con, got lost in the con (because they had moved the AA from when I was last in there) and after getting a bit of things sorted out we set to work getting the table space up and running. I was grumbling a little before we really got set up, but by the time we were ready I was almost too tired to grumble and the first hour changed it all around. AA was opened for a full hour before the dealers room, so all of the lovely people came up to check us out. I had 4 drawing commissions in 20 minutes and 2 more quick button commissions on top of that. That kept me busy for awhile and of course greeting people and selling things. I was more than happy to see the DnD badges going. Also, I made friends with the one other persons up against the back wall. We found very quickly we had lots of fun things to talk about and in common. Lunch was a mess, subway did NOT have $5 footlong in the con center and didnt give us any napkins in the bag...so of course my sandwich had to half fall out all over me. A small price to pay for the rest of the con being good I guess. Closed up at 8 I believe and headed back out, ended up getting pizza and crazy bread (my idea) before getting back to her place, eating and watching another movie while I finished buttons. Saturday we woke to very different weather, snowing, lots of snowing. We got on the road and it was pretty bad, even the highways were not great (this is something I havent seen in recent years, but I also havent been out of town in Jan in a long while). I got there, friend had something else to do for the first part of the day which I was fine with. So after I sat down I started to work on arranging all of the buttons I had finished making the night before. (I actually have parts left, so after I get mine Ill be able to use them for new designs or those that want to wholesale). That was about 300+ buttons in about 50+ designs. Thankfully I think I can fit something like 20-30 per snack bag. That took 2 hours and during that time there was almost no one checking out the AA, assuming because of the bad weather, but slowly it picked up a bit more. Got to see many friends I hadnt in some time. It was so wonderful catching up and this con doesnt feel so...youth driven which was also refreshing. Lunch was some trouble, we ended up getting Subway, but had to wait a bit. Then when we actually got the food, people would show up and wouldnt be able to eat for another 5-20 minutes. XD Thats just how it goes. Near the end the hours another alley person was talking to my friend and mention hentai. Of course they pointed over to me and next thing I know I was sharing some special buttons I made and was able to get a commission from them which I worked on after dinner. When the Alley closed we got out of there and headed to Chick-ful-a since I knew I couldnt do pizza again (I had also been eating the left overs for breakfast). It was very nice as well, I always love eating in one because of the friendly service and delicious food! Got back and I got started on the commission right away. I got most of it done (had forgotten to grab the white gel pen to finish highlights) and relaxed for a bit thinking on ideas before going to bed. Sunday morning....even worse weather. Packed up all of my stuff since we would be leaving for home straight from the con. And headed in to town. Roads so bad I had never seen before, I mean, I was just floored, I would have thought the states capital would look better than that. Anyways, we finally made it there and get settled in. I decided since I was within possibly reaching my goal to do sunday sales to help move it along. It did help some, but quickly I decided there were a few things in the dealers room (I had checked it out briefly on Friday) that I needed to see if I could still get. (First was a gift for my friend, that worked out...not exactly to plan, but possibly better, next a board game, but as they sold the promo ones I passed, meandered a little which the other thing I was interested in was sold already and brought me to the last thing I had really wanted which they had! A puppet Lobster! I saw a few other puppets which were all very nice, but the Lobster spoke to me! He said buy me and well go on adventures together. I thought that would be it, but decided to say hello to my old boss, we chatted briefly and across from him I noticed Glass citys booth, so I had to go say hi, we chatted briefly, I looked down and saw Dirty Pair Flash complete boxset and went yes please.) After purchases there was still one more person I needed to go see down there, got to chat with him for a bit and then headed back upstairs and Rob Calliente was born! I kept pulling him out when people stopped at the table. I got a random guy to hug him. He needs some accessories. MUWHAHAHAA!!! Maybe a little top hat. But that helped the last couple of hours since I wasnt taking anymore commissions by that point. I ended up selling out of the Ranger badges and almost of Barbarian, Druid and Wizard. Sold out of a couple of large buttons but it was because I didnt know I was low. Small buttons werent as popular as I had hoped. No matted prints. Magnets dont count since I didnt have room for them. Did sell a peyote stitched braclet! The Sakura one. And traded the Rainbow one, sadly it will be awhile before I can make anymore of either of those. Anyways, did two trades, one with the tablemates, yay! And another with a lady I had spoke to on Sat I believe. Im very pleased and I had a wonderful time!!! Thank you to everyone that stopped by new and old, bought something or just chatted. You really helped give me some faith in cons again!
