Physical exercise and its ability to create stress resiliency. Studies show that exercise has a major impact on the mind and the way we perceive stress, and the effects of stress on our physiology. Through physical exercise we induce routine stress on the body, triggering a response in our brain, more specifically our ventral and dorsal hippocampus, two sub regions of the hippocampus. The hippocampus is thought to be the prime stress regulation center of the brain. Through inducement of physical stress. The neurons of the ventral hippocampus are activated. Triggering a response of anxiolytic chemicals that Induce anxiety, these chemicals lead to radical disregulation in both psychological process and in long term physiological processes of the body. By routinely activating this stress center of the brain we inhibit the production of the chemicals through desensitization of this anxiolytic process, building a resilience to stress by inhibitory mechanism of the hippocampal interneurons. (Schoenfeld et al.,) For centuries, philosopher, psychologist, and researchers have made correlation that a stronger body is a stronger mind and vice versa. Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity-JFK As humans we can have the personal fault of belief that the mind and body are two separate beings. In fact the brain is live tissue of the body, and effected by everything physical. As well as everything you struggle with interpersonally will effect your bodies general health. Unite the two into the fact that we are both our physical body and our psychological self. Physical exercise is then simply a practice of self awareness.
