Picking up the Grapes! - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Central California owns a raisin vineyard where church members can donate labor to grow, harvest and process grapes to produce raisins. The raisins are then packaged for distribution to those in need or sold for money to help the poor. Today Gus (Augustus Allen Fritz) and I worked in the vineyard. The grapes had already been cut and laid out on paper trays to dry in the sun for 2 weeks. The trays were then rolled into bundles. Today we picked up the bundles and dumped the raisins into huge bins to be hauled away to processing plants to be cleaned and packaged. The used paper trays are impaled on rods next to the bins and then burned at the end of the rows. Now you know how you get those little boxes to put in your lunch bag!
