Pirates coach Roger De Sa explained his decision to keep Lennox Bacela on the pitch for the entire 90 minutes despite lack of experience in the Caf Champions League while Collins Mbesuma was on the bench. “Mbesuma is not in good shape. He only played 45 minutes in all the pre-season friendly games that we played. Bacela scored four or five goals in the last two pre-season games, that’s why he played the whole game. “We go with what we see in training, and not with the name at the back of the jersey,” he said. The Pirates mentor also explained the situation surrounding Tlou Segolela having admitted that he would have liked to use the speedy winger against AC Leopards. “I was hoping to use Tlou, but I was told he is not a Pirates player and therefore cannot play. His issue is discussed in the boardroom,” added De Sa.
