Plans are in place to rescue dozens of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels from a Lineville, Alabama puppy mill this weekend. Today, the trip began to Wheaton, Missouri, where the puppy mill operator has placed the dogs for sale through the Southwest Auction Service. On Saturday night, volunteers from the Greater Birmingham Humane Society will deliver the dogs from Missouri to Alabama in TARA, a mobile transport unit designed to safely accommodate up to 100 dogs. Local veterinarians at Caldwell Mill Animal Clinic are prepared to perform health inspections and provide any necessary medical treatment when the dogs arrive early Sunday morning. Eventually, the rescued dogs will be placed in new homes with the help of Cavalier Rescue USA, a national non-profit organization.
