Please Beware of IEA Suggestions To Wait. People representing IEA may be telling you that there is no harm in waiting. We disagree. The reason that the department reps overwhelmingly voted yes 41-1 was for the immediate need to save courses. Some points to consider: • The College last semester assigned many courses to full time staff. These courses should have gone to P-fac members. P-fac filed a grievance that it is still pushing. • IEA gave us an ultimatum that was contrary to this grievance. IEAs ultimatum would have reserved a right for the college to continue to give our courses to full time staff. • Currently, Columbia Department Chairs are holding our courses in order to assign them to favored staff. We rejected IEAs ultimatum and chose this path to continue to fight for the needs of P-fac members, including keeping our course assignments per the terms of our hard-won contract. If we wait, IEA will continue to undermine our relationship with the college and they will actively inhibit our fight to save course assignments for P-fac members. So when someone asks you to vote no because there is no harm in waiting, imagine if you had to wait to get your course assignments this semester. We think that is not something that we should wait on.
