Please Donate/Participate: Fresno City College, American River College, Stines 360 Academy and Vivint Solar are pleased to announce... THE FIRST ANNUAL JOHN SPOERL DOUBLES TENNIS TOURNAMENT Like many young boys, JOHN SPOERL had dreams of a becoming a star athlete. At four years of age, he began practicing consistently on a tennis court. By seven, he was playing competitively. In high school, he participated two different years as a National High School All American. In college, JOHN played #1 for Diablo Valley and then American River. At both schools, he was named Most Valuable Player. He made it to the NorCal Doubles Finals both years and won the title once. He also qualified for the state tournament in singles. One thing that sets JOHN apart from many athletes, though, is that he has chosen to dedicate himself equally to his studies. Consequently, he has proven himself to be a champion in both athletic and academic arenas. This resulted in his winning a tennis and merit scholarship to HNU. But just as it seemed his dreams were beginning to be more fully realized, JOHN was involved in a terrible accident. On his way home from teaching tennis early this summer, a full-sized work truck, traveling at a high speed, swerved into his lane and hit him head on. Almost every bone in his lower body was either broken or shattered. He also broke his neck, ribs and suffered a compound fracture to his wrist. He ruptured his spleen, too, and has so far endured eight major surgeries, lasting more than 35 hours. Needless to say, JOHN SPOERL is lucky to be alive. True to his nature, JOHN is optimistic about the future. He spent a month in a hospital bed and is faced with a long road to recovery ahead, but every day has made him more of warrior. He still believes in his dreams. JOHN is an inspiration. He represents what we should all aspire to be. This tournament is dedicated to JOHN SPOERL for his unfailing heart and fighters spirit.
