Please Keep Offending Me by Bill Stack There is a move afoot at the UN, to make it a crime to speak ill of religious leaders, or of a specific religion. It has a high-minded, noble-sounding appeal to it, in a perverted kind of way. It is being promoted as a law against the sin of provocation, and it goes something like this: If you say my religion is bad, and I injure or kill you, it is your fault. Yes, you are dead, but it was your fault, because you insulted my religion - or my religious leader. Puu-lease... First of all, why on earth anyone would want to follow a god that was not big enough to defend him/herself is beyond me. If a god needed me to assault or kill those who insulted him, because he couldnt do it himself, he wouldnt be much of a god to begin with, in my book. But enough about my offensive opinions... In the name of sounding civilized, some in our own government are already voicing support for this kind of legislation here in America. May I recommend a relocation option, for those who insist on not being offended. Now, dont get me wrong; my religion teaches me to live peaceably with others, whenever possible, and I often try to speak truth in the least offensive way possible. (Romans 12:18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.) But...as an American, I smell a rat. As an American, I have a right to say whatever I want. As a christian, I have a responsibility to try to live peaceably with those I am around. But the day that you cannot legally offend me, and I cannot legally offend you, is the day that America as a free country ceases to exist in the area of free speech. So please, offend me or my religion all you want, lol. Small price to pay, for the freedoms we all enjoy, IMO...
