The aim is to bring the energy from this tour to THE BEAT FESTIVAL. DAVID TINNING (Santuri Safari) – 20.00 – 21.30 & 00.30 – 02.00 David Tinning has been DJing for the best part of 2 decades. As the coordinator of Santuri Safari he’s been working to develop platforms for DJ culture in the region through organising workshops, recording sessions, events and festival appearances. As a DJ, David has had a vinyl fixation that first surfaced as a child in the UK. He remains obsessively dedicated to the format - schlepping a bunch from his former home Berlin to Dar es Salaam in 2012. https://facebook/santuriproject?fref=ts MOPAO JAZZ – AfroJazz - 21.30 Mopao is a self-taught Tanzanian Jazz guitarist who is destined for a great future. He is steadily growing on the Dar es Salaam scene and performs with a number of bands and solo artists. Mopao also performs with Mzungu Kichaa and Malfred, so he will definitely own the stage for this edition of THE BEAT. Website: facebook/mopaojazz MALFRED – Reggae – 22.00 Malfred is one of Tanzania’s top dancehall and reggae artists. His album, Hisia Zangu, produced by Alec Burton, won him a nomination at the 2014 Tanzanian Music Awards. The album also features a collaboration with Jamaican reggae singer Lutan Fyah. Malfred will be performing with his full band. Website: facebook/malfredtz MZUNGU KICHAA – World Music – 23.00 Mzungu Kichaa means “the crazy white man”. The real meaning behind this name is many-fold and refers not only his music but also has a deep social-cultural significance. He continues to play an important role on the Tanzanian urban scene and represents Tanzanian music in other countries in Africa and Europe through his tours. His passion and knowledge of Tanzanian music has also led him to teach young aspiring musicians in Dar es Salaam through Caravan Records and the school of Music and Dance. At this edition of The Beat, him and his band will be celebrating the return from their 5th European tour.
