Please Share: Time to stop the rumors. The Pet Food Department at the Kendall County Food Pantry is not shutting down. Six years ago I was given the privilege of volunteering at the Kendall County Food Pantry with an amazing Director, Maria Spaeth, along with the dozens of volunteers who have dedicated themselves to serving those in need in Kendall County. My responsibility, initially, started out by providing food for the clients’ pets. It then evolved into setting up low cost vaccine clinics and, starting in 2014, providing free or low cost spay/neuter for them. What may not be known is that I participated in many fundraisers and was blessed by individuals, businesses, and organizations who not only donated pet food, but also provided monetary and non-food pet items. I was able to provide to the clients because of their generosity. And finally my goal of implementing the policy that no client gets pet food unless they can provide spay/neuter documents took place effective September of 2014. It is with deep regret that I am resigning from the KCFP effective 12/31/14 to prepare for my move to New Mexico. I do have comfort in knowing that, in the future, I will be helping other pets in another state. When we least expect it an ANGEL appears. In this case her name is Consuelo Vargas. Consuelo committed to our Director last week that she will be taking over as Coordinator of the Pet Food Department at the Pantry. IT WILL CONTINUE. Those of you who are familiar with Consuelo know that she has many years’ experience with animals. She is instrumental in many feral cat projects in TNR, she has amazing adoption numbers with her rescue group at two Petsmart Stores in Schaumburg, and she has a great relationship with Chicago Anti-Cruelty Society where she has volunteer vets perform 100’s of spay/neuter surgeries every month in their facility. Consuelo and I will have a joint venture relationship as she gets comfortable with her new position. I will be there for support, advice, and help as she needs it. And even after I move, I will be a phone call away. Most importantly, we still need pet food to feed approximately 2000 dogs and cats for the Pantry clients on a monthly basis. For you local animal controls and rescues, please realize the importance of the Pantry in its role of providing food for the clients’ pets. Think of how many dogs and cats would be dumped or owner surrendered if they did not have food to feed them. In addition, amazing plans are being formed by Consuelo to provide more health care for the Current Clients’ pets. The more the pantry is able to provide for the clients’ pets of Kendall County, the less crowded your rescues will be. The Pet Food Department at the Kendall County Food Pantry is only going to get BETTER!!!!!
