Please find a letter below from our new principal, Anthony Partington. I am delighted to be able to inform you that Stamford Welland Academy will replace Stamford Queen Eleanor School as it joins Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust (CMAT), and partners with one of the top performing schools in Cambridgeshire. I am also proud to be the first Principal of Stamford Welland Academy and aim to build a school that provides high quality education for all its pupils, and one that the Stamford community can be proud of. The new name and brand was developed in partnership with students and teachers, governors, the Free School proposer group, and the academy’s new leadership team. The lion was chosen because it represents strength and pride and has strong links with Stamford – the three lions on the town crest – and the three colours represent the three House groups that will be created at the academy. The academy’s new look reflects our drive and commitment to the pursuit of excellence in all areas with a strong focus on academic achievement. We aim to match the standards of other schools which are part of CMAT; the trust’s founding school Swavesey Village College has been rated as Outstanding in all respects by Ofsted. It is important to recognise that these changes are more than just cosmetic – but it does signal a fresh start. Students will belong to a new House group, will study a curriculum that has proven successful across other CMAT academies, and will also be expected to complete their Pledges – an extra-curricular awards scheme that helps develop character and responsibility. The new academy will open on Wednesday 3rd September 2014, although formal conversion to CMAT will take place on Wednesday 1st October. I would like to invite you personally to an information evening for members of the community on Tuesday 16th September from 6-8pm to find out more about CMAT and the changes at the academy. The academy’s formal open evening for prospective students will be held on Wednesday 8th October 2014 from 5.30-8pm. I look forward to working with you to make the academy a source of immense pride for everyone within the Stamford community. Anthony Partington
