Please find details for the heart scans below. Feel free to circulate as you wish. Regards Julian I am the chairman of Burnage RFC based in Heaton Mersey Stockport. In January this year one of our young members, Josh Merrick 19yrs, passed away in his sleep from an undiagnosed cardiac condition. Josh was a fit young man who had just passed his medical for the Royal Navy. In response to this tragic event we are working with the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young to arrange heart screening for those aged between 14 and 35 who are involved in sport. Each week 12 young people die from undiagnosed cardiac conditions. The purpose of this e mail is to offer screening to young people outside the rugby club. The cost is £35. All this money goes to CRY. Each candidate will get an ECG, usual cost £100. If required a candidate will get an ECHO scan at that time with no extra cost. Usual cost £400. What happens to the results? ECG printouts, together with Client information, are returned to the CRY Screening Manager to be reviewed by CRY’s Consultant Cardiologist. Results are sent out to Clients within four weeks of the ECG Testing date. GPs will be copied into all abnormal results. Anyone requiring further investigation is invited to attend one of CRYs supporting hospitals via referral from their GP, or be referred locally. . The charity CRY was founded by families who have suffered a bereavement. Their aim is to raise the profile of CRY and to screen as many young people as possible to reduce the risk of further fatalities. More details can be found on the CRY web page. If an abnormality is found this may not mean you have to stop playing sport. The abnormality may be present in one person but have no effect on that person. It may however affect their children or other relatives. If you are interested please e mail me, Julian Ross at julianross1190@gmail. I will reserve you a place then once we have the target of 100 names I will ask for money and make the appointments.
