Post Title: Climate Change & Environment Programme Officer (Service Contract, based in Samoa) Background: The UNDP Multi-Country Office based in Samoa serves the Cook Islands, Niue, Samoa and Tokelau. The office also provides oversight for several regional programmes that cover 14 countries in the Pacific. The environment and climate change portfolio constitutes 90% of the programme, with emphasis on 1) sustainable environmental management, 2) disaster risk management and climate change adaptation, and 3) expanded access to energy and climate change mitigation. The programme also requires working at sector levels such as forestry, health and agriculture to build climate change adaptation into development and implementation of sector-wide programmes, as a contribution to governments’ commitment to carbon neutrality by 2020. Summary of Principal Functions: The MCO is seeking the services of a dynamic person with knowledge and experience in environmental science or related field. The Climate Change & Environment Programme Officer will be expected to ensure implementation of programme strategies, management of the MCO programme in the area of environment, creation of strategic partnerships, implementation of the resource mobilization strategy, provision of top quality advisory services to the Government and other counterparts, and facilitation of knowledge building and management. Qualifications and Experience: Master’s Degree or equivalent in Environmental Science or related field. 5 years of relevant experience at the national or international level in design, management, monitoring and evaluation of development projects. Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages. Experience in handling of web based management systems will be an asset. Salary and Benefits: This position is based in Apia (Samoa). The service contract is offered initially for 12 months, and renewable based on good performance. An attractive salary is offered, to be discussed with shortlisted candidates during their interview.
