Please forward this ad to anyone who might be interested in applying to be Director of our new Writing and Communication Centre: Position: Director of the Writing and Communication Centre at Ashoka University Ashoka University is a new liberal arts university opening in August 2014 in the National Capital Region of Delhi in India. As an integral part of our commitment to a liberal education and the liberal arts, we are setting up a Centre for Writing and Communication to help foster critical thinking and expression in our students. This investment in critical thinking will be the cornerstone of our intellectual endeavour. As a liberal arts university, we will offer four-year degrees in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. We envisage a mandatory first-semester course in critical thinking and writing for all incoming students, followed by writing-intensive seminars in the second semester. Courses in subsequent semesters will incorporate substantial writing. The Centre will also host multiple workshops and activities on specific aspects of writing and communication, as well as offer oneon-one tutoring services to students in all courses. The Director of the Writing and Communication Centre will have significant input into how the Centre and its offerings are structured. The Director will be expected to teach one of the firstsemester courses on critical thinking and writing, as well as other courses in later semesters; initiate and co-ordinate all the Centre’s activities; recruit writing faculty; train tutors from India and abroad, devise course offerings; and ensure the infrastructure for an organization that will be one of the nerve-centers of the new University. The position will start in January 2014 and will be for an initial term of 2 years with the possibility of extending indefinitely. Salary and perks will be attractive and commensurate with relevant experience for suitable candidates. Applications are welcomed from candidates holding a Ph.D in Writing / Rhetoric and Composition or allied subjects like Literature, History, Communication. Ideally, applicants will have 3-5 years of experience in either running a Writing Centre or playing a major role in such an organisation.
