The Rensselaerville Festival of Writers proudly announces its lineup of authors for 2013. This year’s celebration of arts and literature will take place August 15 – 18 in several venues throughout the idyllic Helderberg hamlet of Rensselaerville, NY. Readings, workshops, and receptions feature local and regional writers as well as nationally known professionals including: • Joan Walsh – editor-at-large at Salon and MSNBC political analyst, author of What’s the Matter with White People? Why We Long for a Golden Age That Never Was • Lizz Winstead – political satirist and a creator of The Daily Show and Air America Radio • Peter Trachtenberg – Another Insane Devotion; On the Love of Cats and Persons evoked comparisons to Proust and Dostoevsky • Essayist and novelist Paul La Farge – his high-concept novel Luminous Airplanes “…astute and touching” – The New York Times • David Rees – humorist, cartoonist, Huffington Post contributor, creator of the “clip art comic” Get Your War On • • John Bowe – author and editor of three books: Us: Americans Talk About Love, Nobodies: Modern American Slave Labor and the Dark Side of the New Global Economy, and Gig: Americans Talk About Their Jobs • Sara J. Henry – award-winning mystery writer (2012 Agatha Award for a first novel, 2012 Mary Higgins Clark Award) and author of Learning to Swim and A Cold and Lonely Place • Sarah Van Arsdale – Medusa, New York writer and winner of the Peter Taylor Award, wrote Toward Amnesia and Blue ; and 16 Capital Area Writers who won the Festival’s juried competition (Please see the website for the names of these authors, as well as the names of the other nationally known authors.) This summer marks the fourth Rensselaerville Festival of Writers. The event has grown since the first festival in 2009, going annual in 2011 when it won the Upper Hudson Library System’s Program of the Year award. Past festivals showcased authors including Andy Rooney, William Kennedy, Galway Kinnell, Jean Craighead George, Candace Christiansen, Nick Flynn, Verlyn Klinkenborg, Francine Prose, and Mary Morris. Festival proceeds benefit the historic Rensselaerville Library located at 1459 County Route 351 (Main St.), Rensselaerville, NY 12147.
