Please help our reptile friends in West Virginia by calling the Governors office and asking that he veto HB 4393, the Dangerous Wild Animals Act. Governor Tomblin (304) 558-2000 or 1-888-438-2731. They do not ask where you live or why you want the bill vetoed, so its an easy task to help our fellow herpers. As of Tuesday afternoon, the local paper reported that the governors office had received more than 1,000 calls from constituents, with 759 in support of the bill and 502 against it. If you really want to provide a reason for vetoing the bill, you can say that the bill is grossly unfair to reptile owners because they can not qualify for the exemption for license holders under the Animal Welfare Act because licenses are only issued to and required of exhibitors and dealers of mammals, i.e., warm blooded animals. In other words, reptile dealers and exhibitors are put out of business with respect to any reptiles ultimately put on the dangerous animal list and mammal exhibitors and dealers are not because they are required to have the license under the federal Animal Welfare Act. charlestondailymail/News/201403180226
