Please join us in supporting the Journals for Juveniles in Jail project: Journals for Juveniles this January is an effort to collect composition books for youth incarcerated at Cook County Juvenile Detention, Chicago, IL. At any time there are 350 youth there, sometimes as many as 400. Most of them are awaiting trial for non-violent offenses, and are convicted of nothing. One of the programs that offers education and healing is the Free Write Jail program, and they are always in need of more composition books for their students. Below is a suggestion for the type of notebook that is needed, (soft cover, stitched--no staples or metal spirals). Our goal is 350 notebooks, so any number helps. If you live in the Chicagoland area, you can also drop off composition books to our office: Moms United Against Violence and Incarceration, 114 N Aberdeen, Chicago, IL.
