Please join us this Christmas Eve- TOMORROW!! Christmas 1872 was not a happy time for some western New Yorkers. On Christmas eve day of that year, a horrendous railroad accident occurred in the Town of Portland that ended the lives of over 20 people. This Christmas eve, Chautauqua Rails to Trails will host a commemorative event at the site of the accident. We’ll will meet at the Prospect Station trailhead at 2:30, hike about 1/4 mile to the site of the accident, learn more about it, remember the victims, and walk back to the trailhead. The event should take, depending on the weather and comments, from 15 to 30 minutes. Everyone is invited to the commemoration.
