MAHS ANNUAL DINNER MEETING Monday, September 16, 2013, at the Carnegie Resource Center 119 West Third Avenue, Mitchell, South Dakota Please plan to attend this special annual dinner meeting of MAHS. We will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the founding of MAHS and the 110th anniversary of the dedication of Mitchell’s Carnegie Library which, since May 2006, has been the home of the Mitchell Area Historical Society and the Mitchell Area Genealogical Society. The festivities will begin at 2:00 p.m. with an open house and ribbon cutting. Kate Aulner, Mitchell Postmaster, along with Mitchell artist Rich Stedman, will be on hand from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. to provide collectors with special event covers (cachets) that commemorate these historic events. Dinner will be served from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. MAHS member Doug Carlson and his prize-winning barbecue team will cook a whole hog in the CRC parking lot. The menu will feature barbecued pork sandwiches along with potato salad, baked beans, and coleslaw prepared by Brenda Meyer and the staff at Amstar in Mitchell. For dessert, Alice Claggett is baking delicious peach cobbler. Coke is providing soft drink products and coffee will be served. Please note: Those with reservations (cost: $12.50/person in advance) should arrive at least by 5:30 p.m. Preparations are being made to serve approximately 100 persons. Serving for those without reservations (cost: $15.00/person) will begin at 6:00 p.m. and continue until the food is gone. If weather creates a problem, the dinner will be served across West Third Avenue at the First United Methodist Church.
