Please meet Shelley Doty and Liz Pisco, volunteers of Wine, Women & Song since its inception in 1998. SHELLEY DOTY has a voluminous career as a solo artist, band leader, band member, hired gun, and musical director, among other things. Shelley’s comprehensive styles include jazz, fusion, R&B, “avant-punk-classical”, rock and acoustic folk. At various junctures on her musical journey, Shelley has been involved with Jambay, The Shelley Doty X-tet, Sistas in the Pit, Skip the Needle, Vicki Randle, Bonfire Madigan, and the list goes on. In 1999, she won the Lilith Fair Acoustic Talent Search and closed the show playing guitar with Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crow, Sarah McLachlan, and Chrissie Hynde in front of 22,000 cheering fans. Guitar Player Magazine praises her voice as smoky, (and) soulful. My favorite thing about Shelley is her willingness to stretch herself out of her comfort zone when asked, and create something unique just for Wine, Women & Song. I can’t wait to see what she has come up with for 2014! Check out the full article from Guitar Player Magazine, as well as her amazing bio, both found at shelleydoty. LIZ PISCO is heavy in the Fairfax music scene right now, sharing her spot-on harmonies with Tracy Blackman, Shelley Doty, Rebecca Chourre, The Silver Doves, Velvy Appleton and ME. She can be seen performing at YES Fundraisers for local schools, a monthly gig at Deer Park Villa, a stream of performances at The Sleeping Lady, and has performed for the past two years on the ECOStage at the Fairfax Festival. Raz Kennedy, vocal coach to the stars, says that, “Lizs songs are inwardly directed windows which provide an opportunity for the listener to take a look at what makes us ‘tick’ as human beings. Her profound, intelligent & thought provoking lyrics keep us curious about who we are and fascinated by what we discover.” KFOG DJ, Renee Richardson, has said, “Liz Pisco’s music is ethereal, goosebumby and just plain rockin’!” I can also vouch for Liz’s great navigation of a road map, as we went on several West Coast tours together, (Shelley Doty included), as “She’s Out There”. After the 2005, Wine, Women & Song event, I was trying to think of another format for the show, when Liz came up with the idea to do music by artists who have had breast cancer, and we have been doing it that way ever since!
