Many see this effort as a Trojan Horse, designed to undercut the Comprehensive Management Plan established many years ago to protect the unique aquifer and plant and animal life of the Pinelands, which is also a UN Biosphere. There are two alternate routes that would be less destructive that the industry hasn’t considered. A 24” diameter pipe will have more capacity than is needed by the B.L. English power plant and may be part of an industry initiative to extend a gas pipeline across the Pinelands to an offshore LNG export facility at some point in the future. At stake is the Cohansey Aquifer which lies close to the surface and on which the Pinelands ecosystem and the drinking water for the region depend. * *The 1. 1 million acre Pinelands National Reserve covers most of-the outer Coastal Plain and is underlain by the vast Cohansey Aquifer that contains 17 trillion gallons of water.
