Joram Jorry Matomela Not thát his word mattered then, but his choice reveals the intellect in him. You are a leader and presented with two choices. Ian Khama v David Magang, the formers oñly claim to leadership credentials is on the back of an accident of birth, being the son of Seretse, and possibly militáry training. The other is a sophisticated businessman and polítician. His leadership style possibly would have béen more inclusive and lesa destructive as Ian Khama. 15 hours ago · Like.. I mean pple are failin to ask thmselves why Dingake & Otladisa wr asked about VP posirion before BNF leader & leader of opposition Dr Koma? Why dd Nchindo mention Gobe Matenge as a possible VP whn engagin with Dingake? This ws also a tactic of identifyin th weakest link within BNf & exploit tht to break BNF. Gobe Matenge hu we are told ws close to Mogae bac thn is now ex officio CC member of BCP & is credited with recruitin Rammidi to BCP. In his old age,he re-emerged and assumed the presidency after Koosaletse,oñly to handover to his son in his retirement. Gilsons character can make a good book. Upon his return to parliament for the second time, he has béen as good as retired as he is unusually uninterested and quiet, much to the disappointment of his followers. Ontwetse Gaotsenelelwe One oren Monan, cn we get tht analysis hr 2 hours ago via mobile · Like.. Moncho Kebonyethebe Moncho There is no doubt Ian Khama changed political landscape of BW dramatically. The question becomes what would have happened had another taken over instead, say Magang, would BDP have gotten stronger or weaker. BDP factions, big 5 vs Big 2 were bracing 4 a show down. By appointing Khama, Mogae defused tension as he had put a man BDP members revered, though frustrated, the 2 factions wilted & recoiled 4 fear of rebelling against a man BDP was anchored on his fathers legacy, this was per Schlemers DeBeers sponsored recommendations. This happened at a time when BNF was poised to win elections after its historic 94 performance, when the air was pregnant with regime change euphoria. On the other hand BNF had tendencies that threatened it, the old guard, comprising veterans including Ok Menyatso, Giddie, Ontumetse, Klaas were displeased with party being derailed by newcomers, namely Michael Dingake. KK unexpected change from supporting Magang as agreed, stoked heightened tensions within the party, I fail to appreciate how KK could have acted in the best interest of BNF, KK more than any other, knew the effect of chief Khamas ascendence to presidency, with benefit of hindsight we now know that impact. To justify that because BDP is about to implode courtesy of Khama, is disingenuous, reactionary & outright cultist. about an hour ago via mobile · Edited · Like.. Joram Jorry Matomela It is a given that the BDP was paralysed by factions then. But possibly compared to Magang, Khama was a slow poison. Magang compared to Khama was familiar with BDP politics and he at least had democratic pretensions. On the contrary, Khama is a tyrant who suppresses dissent. What is more destructive, suppression of internal democratic processes or embracing democracy? I doubt that had Magang taken over, the BDP split that resulted in BMD could have happened. The split, as we know, was the brainchild of Khamas leadership style. about an hour ago · Like.. Moncho Kebonyethebe Moncho Magangs liberal credentials are as overrated as those of Kedikilwe, he claims to have been a champion of beneficiation when as minister of mineral resources he doesnt account 4 his failure to do what he needed to be done. His ascension would possibly have polarized BDP even more given factionalism at the time, doing so with BNF support could even undermine his allegiance to BDP & illicit some concession to democratic reforms, show cause why the genius KK could be so speculative & reckless as to chose BDP to regroup & fortify than implode then, when there were flashlights. In other words Koma and no other became a victim of DeBeers dirty money, he acquiesced by reneged on a strategy that was conceived by his own & sold to the enemy. Perhaps a tribal bigot is too strong but KK had tribalistic inclinations & tendencies that worked against & undermined his progressive agenda to depose BDP, its hard to swallow, but true, Komas serial litany of error of judgement was in fact a strategy not to remove BDP, may be, just may be as much as Ian Khama was an apparent heir to the BDP throne & Masire held fort, it may as well be that KK was a decoy, another strategy hatched possibly by Sir Seretse Khama, which again, underscores tribalism thesis. about an hour ago via mobile · Edited · Like..
