It is not very often these days that a motion picture, as opposed to a motionless picture? inspires much thought in me and consequently from me. With time to kill, I decided to view the Man of Steel. The movie was far better than I thought it would be. With effects now ruling the industry, I did expect a grand spectacle in that area. But I was more impressed with the story itself. Aside from the nod to global warming being the reason for planet Krypton destruction, politics was kept to a minimum. It got back to what most comic book heroes and cinema good guys were always about; good versus evil. They did try and make the Krypton general less evil with his waxing on about being the protector of his people. But, it is a reasoned argument. And that argument was rejected with reasoned response. What really makes the film to me is the lesson taught to the young man of steel that character, character is what matters. And its your choice, will it be a man of good character? Or bad character? Upon that choice, the world will change. Think about that. If every person understood that to be true and applied it to their life, what worldly changes might we see? More harmony, less chaos? More charity, less selfishness? More love, less hate? A dreamer, I know....... The other thing that caught my attention is the fear and wariness upon which we greet things we dont understand. Dont misunderstand, Im all for caution and preparedness for any possibility. But we at once seem to acknowledge our fear of that which we dont understand while exercising that fear. Its quite the paradox. Is this fear based on anything rational? Or is it a natural defense mechanism? Perhaps in some instances a combination of the two. In any event, we are slow and cautious, and at times viscous with our coming to grips with those things we dont understand. The key to fear and understanding it, is not in not feeling it. I think that impossible anyway. But fear is like any emotion or human reaction, it has to be managed. Fear can be a motivator. Fear can paralyze. It is in those moments that you must decide in what form you will allow that fear to take........
