Please pardon me while I climb up on my soap box. While at work - TopicsExpress

Please pardon me while I climb up on my soap box. While at work this evening I walked into a convenient store and heard a man say, “Oh, it’s only a newspaper person. She should get a real job”. Being professional, I held my tongue but inside I was boiling mad. I am here to inform that I DO have a real job and that the words “only” and “just” are nowhere in my job title. While this man is sitting at home, I am out in the heat, cold, wind, rain, snow & sleet working to deliver the newspaper that he is reading & enjoying. I make an honest living at what I do. I have been in newspaper circulation for 22 years now. In the last 12 years alone, I have only missed 2 days of work (my house burned down and the day that my Daddy passed away). I don’t take sick days & I don’t get vacation time. I work hard for my paycheck and have good old fashioned ethics. Over the years I have had a variety of jobs and have heard this type of attitude my whole life. I want to stand up and say that EVERY job is important. That clerk in the convenient store – you expect the shelves to be stocked and someone to sell these items to you when you stop by. The restaurant employee (from Applebee’s to Waffle House) – you expect them to wait on you and cook your food for you. The taxi driver, warehouse worker, hotel maid, garbage collector…. You want the service & somebody has to do it. Just something to think about. I fell better now so I will step down.
