Please pray for the families of those who lost their lives and those who were injured or whose homes and/or businesses were damaged during the recent earthquake in Chile. Lord, have mercy. The LCMS partner church, the Confessional Lutheran Church of Chile, is sending an assessment team into the damaged areas and has asked a team from LCMS Disaster Response to join them next week to help plan a coordinated response. Here’s a brief (translated) report from the Chilean church body: “On Friday night, with three pastors and some lay members, we will start a voyage of exploration to the earthquake-damaged region to view with our eyes and listen to the testimony of survivors. We will take what we can, basic food and water, in addition to Christs presence in the midst of our sufferings. He bore our sins on the cross. He also is present with His Church walking together with those who grieve. We will be sending reports from the cities we visit. After our first visit the church will make a decision on how we might help. The great challenge is the vast distances that separate us but we are in Gods hands and we cannot remain still in the face of this size disaster.”
