Please read and share! Your local fire department seriously needs your help!! Currently fire departments can receive excess Department of Defense vehicles and convert them to and use them as fire trucks at little or no cost. This also includes other equipment such as pumps and generators. This helps protect you, your family and your property! There are currently 8,812 vehicles and pieces of equipment being used by Oklahoma fire departments alone. However, this program will likely end because the government (EPA and Department of Defense) is now choosing to destroy these perfectly good excess vehicles and equipment instead of giving them to fire departments. Why? Simply because these items do not meet current EPA emission standards. So equipment that you as a tax payer have already paid for will not get put to use locally serving you because of EPA’s emission standards. Please call every elected federal official you can and tell them this is government waste and should not be tolerated! This puts almost every community at higher risk for loss of life and property due to fire. If you are from Oklahoma, below is contact information for Congressman Lucas and Senator Inhofe. I know the holiday is coming up, but please call and voice your opinion. Tell them to continue allowing surplus equipment to be utilized by rural fire departments! It will only take a second!!
