Please read and sign this petition. Below is a link to a petition that supports HR 3040. It is a bill that requires class 1 railroads to use at least 2 crew members in the cab of each through - freight train. As most of you know I am very much against government regulations. HOWEVER, I believe see single man crews are a public danger. I am an engineer and the job to be taken away will be the conductor but I feel safer having a counterpart in the cab with while moving sensitive materials. Would anyone like to fly a commercial airline for 12 hours with 1 person in the cockpit? No, public safety would be a concern. We haul some pretty nasty stuff (just ask Canada). The major train incidents in the last few years have involved single man crews. You should know that there is currently a proposal between SMART TD and BNSF Railway to allow for single man crews to operate on their system. Me and many of my fellow railroaders are concerned about job losses. That is not anyone elses concern, that is for us to figure out. BUT, I do believe the public should know how trains and crews are being utilized through their communities. Please sign the petition and forward the link to everyone you know.
