Please read this Severe Weather Warning update entirely, there is mention of a squally aka strong Southerly change expected this evening as well, which is sort of accounted for in our forecast, ETA through the Illawarra Forecast area is around 9pm - 10pm - Stephen Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology IDN28500 Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds for people in the Metropolitan, Mid North Coast, Hunter, Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, Central West Slopes & Plains, South West Slopes, Riverina, Upper Western, Lower Western, Snowy Mountains and Australian Capital Territory forecast districts Issued at 3:31 pm EDT on Thursday 10 October 2013. DAMAGING WINDS OVER SOUTHERN AND CENTRAL NEW SOUTH WALES ON THURSDAY Weather Situation A strong cold front lies over southern NSW and is expected to cross central districts Thursday evening, then weaken as it moves through the northeast Friday morning. Strong to gale force northwesterly winds are expected ahead of the front with a south to southwest change to follow. Winds may briefly reach gale force behind the change, particularly along the coast. Damaging northwesterly winds averaging about 60km/h with peak gusts of 100km/h are expected for the Snowy Mountains, Illawarra, South Coast, Southern Tablelands, Australian Capital Territory, Central Tablelands, and Hunter districts before a squally southerly change brings the likelihood of damaging winds to coastal parts of the Sydney Metropolitan area this evening, and also coastal parts of the Illawarra, Hunter (including the Central Coast) and southern Mid North Coast this evening and overnight. Damaging northwest to southwest winds are possible for the Central West Slopes & Plains, South West Slopes, Riverina, Upper Western and Lower Western forecast districts late this afternoon/evening. a gust of 106 km/h was reported at Thredbo this morning, and gusts of about 90 km/h were reported from Cooma and Bombala.
