Please read this means a lot to me and share it so my Story will be Known Up until now I have not shared my private situation pertaining to my divorce and custody battle on Facebook. I have felt that this was a personal matter, however with the General election coming up in November I feel that it’s time I share my story. In October of last year my ex-wife filed for divorce. The reason, irreconcilable differences. I wanted nothing more than to be able to work things out but it was obvious that was not going to happen. In December we were granted joint custody of our beautiful daughter in an interim order only to have that revoked at our final hearing in June. She was awarded primary custody. We are both good fit parents, and we both love our daughter very much. I now only get to see my daughter for 3 hours 1 day a week and every other weekend. My daughter deserves to have both of us equally involved in her life. Tomorrow is my day to have her and I asked if I could pick her up early from daycare since her mother is in class. Isn’t it better to be with a parent than in daycare? I was told that I could pick her up if I paid half of the daycare bill which Is supposed to be paid for with the child support that is being taken from my paychecks. In order to spend more time with my daughter, I am now resorted to “buying” that time. In November there will be a measure on the ND ballot in favor of Shared parenting. This measure ensures that both parents will be given 50/50 custody, both residential and legal, as long as both parents are fit parents. In the event that one parent is deemed unfit the law will fall back to the way it currently is. If this measure passes, it will allow for parents like myself to not be taken advantage of and to be equally involved in their child’s life. I beg you to vote YES for the shared parenting measure in November.
