Please rise to the occasion and build a consensus regarding a total ban on cow slaughter - our abandoned mother. For those with secular credentials, I have the following set of reasons to support Hindus in declaring Cow slaughter as a cognizable offence: 1) The milk of Bos Indicus ( Indian Cow) has health promoting properties due to Beta Casein A2 unlike Bos Taurus ( European Breeds) whose milk is diabetic due to Beta Casein A1. So, this is an asset and India can provide milk for the entire world with its 150 million cows, if nurtured. Please understand its economic importance. 2) Article 48 of the constitution regarding preserving and improving the breeds of cow and prohibiting its slaughter has been upheld by a five judge constitutional bench of the Supreme Court in 1958. Ban on cow slaughter has been held as a reasonable restriction on the fundamental rights. 3) Cow is serene by temperament and herbivores by diet. This Mahatma Gandhi had declared, Cow protection is more important even than Swaraj. 4) And above all, its a fundamental trait of Hinduness or Hindutva. Lets not allow anyone to devalue our culture.
