Please see and share information below. The Bricklayers and Allied Craft-workers Union is pleased to announce apprenticeship openings. Applications will be accepted early December for all three programs, Brick, Restoration and TMT (tile, marble and terrazzo). A large turnout is expected, please come completely prepared and ensure they you meet the minimum requirements listed below. Top candidates will bselected to begin three months of training in early 2014. If interested, please read this entire email carefully. *NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR BRICKLAYER, RESTORATION WORKERS (PCC) AND TILE, MARBLE AND TERRAZZO APPRENTICESHIPS* MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Be at least 18 years old Have a valid Michigan driver’s license – Must have with you on application day. Must have dependable transportation. Be a U.S. Citizen – Bring Social Security Card for verification with you on application day. Be a resident of Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Monroe or St. Clair county High School graduate or GED – Bring HS transcripts & Diploma or GED on application day. Pass Aptitude test – dates given on app. Day (see details below) Pass pre apprentice physical examination – information provided on application day Be Drug Free - testing information will be given after passing aptitude test. Obtain two character reference letters from non-family members – bring with you on application day. Shall be physically cable of performing the essential functions of the apprenticeship program without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of the individual or others. Apprenticeship applications will be accepted on Monday December 2, 2013 for Tile, Marble and Terrazzo. Brick and Restoration apprenticeship application day will be Friday December 6, 2013. Applications will be accepted on both days from 8am-4pm; no early or late applications will be accepted. You must come to the site to obtain an application. Completed applications will only be accepted at the IMI Training Center located at 21031 Ryan Road in Warren 48091 Click here for a Map to the IMI Training Center The IMI Training Center is located just north of Eight Mile Road, on the west side of Ryan. When visiting or conducting any business with the IMI Training Center, please park at the rear of the building or along the side street if lot is full. Entrance to the school is off the back parking lot; enter the door under canopy. Applicants meeting the minimum requirements will be given instructions and dates for the aptitude test. APTITUDE TEST - Work Keys Skills Assessments in Applied Mathematics (3), Reading for Information (4) and Locating Information (4), Minimum score in parentheses. Work Keys assessments measure real world skills employers believe are critical to job success. These skills are valuable for any occupation—skilled or professional—and at any level of education. The Reading for Information assessment measures the skill people use when they read and use written text in order to do a job. The written texts include memos, letters, directions, signs, notices, bulletins, policies, and regulations. It is often the case that workplace communications are not necessarily well-written or targeted to the appropriate audience. Reading for Information materials do not include information that is presented graphically, such as in charts, forms, or blueprints. The Applied Mathematics assessment measures the skill people use when they apply mathematical reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving techniques to work-related problems. The test questions require the examinee to set up and solve the types of problems and do the types of calculations that actually occur in the workplace. This test is designed to be taken with a calculator, please bring one with you on the day of testing. The Locating Information assessment measures the skill people use when they work with workplace graphics. Examinees are asked to find information in a graphic or insert information into a graphic. They also must compare, summarize, and analyze information found in related graphics. The skill people use when they locate, synthesize, and use information from workplace graphics such as charts, graphs, tables, forms, flowcharts, diagrams, floor plans, maps, and instrument gauges is a basic skill required in todays workforce. If you are registered with the Michigan Talent bank, you may obtain a free voucher from any Macomb Michigan works office. You can register with the Talent bank from any PC.
