Please see the following announcement from the Florida Panther Recovery Implementation Team about an upcoming workshop to discuss estimating the size of the panther population in Florida. The workshop will be held on October 28, from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM, at the University of Florida IFAS Extension Office in Collier County, 14700 Immokalee Road, Naples, FL. The purpose of this workshop is to present the latest information on how panthers are counted to derive an estimate of the population numbers, to discuss the techniques that are being used to estimate panther density on public lands, and to present a new proposal to estimate panther density on private lands. The workshop will be informational, but will also provide an opportunity for interactive discussion with the public on the topic of estimating the size of the Florida panther population. The meeting is free and open to the public. No RSVP is necessary. However, seating will be limited and provided on a first-come, first-seated basis.
