Please see the message below from Dr. Kline, the Superintendent for West Clermont Local Schools: Calamity Day Update You may have heard that the state House and Senate both passed a revision to the Calamity Day Plans for all schools in Ohio. While this legislation needs the Governor’s signature, he has said he will sign the bill. At this point, West Clermont has missed 9 days of school due to bad weather. School districts across Ohio are now using a 5+4+4 model for calamity days. Here’s how it works: • As has been Ohio’s history, the first five calamity days do not need to be made up. By law, attendance on those days are waived. • The next four days must be accounted for using contingency plans. For West Clermont, our 3 blizzard bag days count and we will have school on Thursday, June 5th to get us to four. • Once we have met these initial requirements, the state has given us an additional four waiver days if we need them. Hopefully, we won’t. Bottom line – because of Blizzard Bags and making up one day on June 5th, West Clermont is even on days missed. Please make sure you adjust your calendar for that day as it will be our new “last day of school” for this year. Dr. Keith Kline – Superintendent West Clermont School District
