This will be a chance to meet the Bandsmen and their Officers and to view various artefacts relating to Major General Sir Isaac Brock and the War of 1812 --------------- The Band of the Lincoln and Welland Regiment are arriving in Guernsey on Friday 10th October to join the Brock Memorial Foundation in marking the 202nd anniversary of the Battle of Queenston Heights, which saw Guernseyman Major General Sir Isaac Brock killed defending the Canadas from American invasion. As well as the British Regulars under the command of Sir Isaac Brock, the battle was joined by the Lincoln Militia, a fighting unit made up of volunteers from the farms and villages in the region. The Lincoln and Welland Regiment traces its roots back to these early militia units, and so it is particularly appropriate that they join us here in Guernsey this weekend. The Regiment carries the scallop shell emblem of the Brock family on its Regimental Colours, as well as on the soldiers belt buckles, buttons and headgear. 2014 is a particularly important year in the War of 1812 commemorations, as it marks the 200th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Ghent, which brought the War to an official end, even though fighting continued across the Atlantic well into 1815.
