Please sign the petition against the eviction of small-scale vendors from Manilas Luneta Park! Theyre being threatened with eviction as part of a clean-up in preparation for the Popes visit. The vendors sell things like wrapped lollies, keyrings, phone credit, that kind of thing, all for a razor-thin profit. They are very, very economically marginal (a typical days profit is under AU $5) and cant afford to lose their livelihood. The irony is that many of those threatened are devout Catholics who have been encouraged by Pope Francis renewed calls for social and economic justice. This kind of attempt to sweep the urban poor out of the way before big events is a common action by governments hoping to look good when international eyes are on them. It can be stopped by international pressure. Please sign, like and share.
